What is dramatic Photography?
Dramatic Photography is achieved by taking a photograph that shows strong emotion and the mood of a person. Most dramatic photography is captured by shooting into the sun or other technique that creates a special/effective mood in the photograph.
Some examples of Dramatic Photography:
Personally, I decided to choose this theme because i like the way it can be represented as dark or really bright to show how dramatic the image is. For my shoot, I think i am going to go for the darker side of dramatic photography because i like how it adds a deeper and more sinister feeling to them. I really like how the shadows allow the light to highlight the emotion in the models face to give more emotion to the photograph.
Some Dramatic Photography artists:
Marco Grobb
Marco Grob is a 54 year old photographer from Switzerland. Marco makes his photographs dramatic by making most of them black and white. Marco mainly focuses on the persons face on his photographs, which can be effective. I really like his photographs because he focuses on details by shadowing them and showing the real emotion on the persons face. I think i am going to go towards this type of dramatic photography instead of the vibrant/pop themed one because i think that Marcos style shows more emotion and in my opinion they look better.
Lisa Kristine
Lisa Kristine is a 54 year old American photographer from San Francisco. She is a humanitarian Photographer who captures the issues towards modern slavery and social causes. Lisa has brought up these issues by portraying them in her photography, She has been to over 100 enslaved countries and helped charities through her work. In my opinion, her photographs show deep emotion because she is showing us what enslavement can do to people and how it can make them feel. I think that Lisa has decided to do this type of photography because she wants other people to help and see what we don`t.
Annie leibovitz
Annie Leibovitz is an American Photographer who is 70 years old. Annie takes portrait photographs of mainly celebrities and edits them. When Annie edits her photographs she makes them look very dramatic, this is how i would like to do mine. I`ve noticed on her photographs that she uses lighting to enhance the face more. She probably does this by changing the exposure on her photographs. Personally, all of the artists that i`ve researched photographs look quite similar, but they all tell a different story and show different meanings.
Some examples of animal dramatic photography:
For my first or second shoot, I am considering taking photographs of animals instead. I prefer taking photographs of animals because in my opinion they are more effective. I would really like to base my first mock exam on my dog, diesel because he is very photogenic. Also, because this is my first photography exam, i wanted to try something different.
My first shoot:
For my first shoot, I am going to take some photographs of my friend Alyssa in the hall in my school because the lighting will be more dark in there. I am going to try and get the shadowed effect on my first photograph but it may be hard because of how light it is outside. After I`ve completed the shoot i am going to try and edit it in photo plus to make it look better. I think i could capture an image like this one by altering the Aperture slightly to control how much light passes through the lens.
My shoot:
This was my first shoot. In my opinion, i think it went very well. When me and Alyssa got into the hall, i tried to find an area which had a shadow on part of the wall. I really like how my photographs turned out because i really captured what i wanted to create. I think on my next shoot i am going to choose a different background so the door Isn`t in the way and i am going to try and use a black background.
My favourite photograph:
This is my favorite photograph because i like how half of her face is cancelled out by the shadow and how her face shows no emotion. I like this photograph the most because i took some inspiration from Marco Grobb and personally i think it came out quite good.
My least favourite photograph:
This is my least favorite photograph because it isn`t in focus and there is no contrast on her face, which is what i was trying to do.
My edit:
This was my final outcome for my first shoot. Whilst editing this photograph i changed it to black and white and altered the brightness to make it look lighter where you can see her face.
My second shoot:
For my second shoot, i am going to try and create or make a room in my house very dark and try to add lighting in the areas i need it. I will put my dog in the dark room and try and make the shadow/light stay on one side of his face. After i have done the shoot, i will turn some of the ones i like into black and white to see which is more effective. I really want to try and achieve something that looks like this image because i want to capture half of my dogs face and leave the rest shadowed. This will be the first dramatic Photograph of an animal I`ve ever taken, so hopefully it goes well.
